Athens, GA – At the Georgia Chamber of Commerce’s Congressional Luncheon held on August 8th, Governor Brian Kemp advocated for crucial reforms to Georgia’s civil justice system. Kemp emphasized the need to rectify the current one-sided laws which encourage frivolous lawsuits, create excessive legal costs, and inflate jury verdicts. Georgia's current lawsuit environment escalates prices for our state’s goods, services, and insurance rates, affecting both businesses and consumers.

“Our judicial system should not favor one party over the other,” said Governor Kemp. “Our laws should not put their thumb on the scale for the accused or the accuser, and our business environment should help businesses start, operate, and grow – not incentivize higher prices, smaller payrolls, and more red tape.”

The Georgia Chamber commends the Governor for his continued dedication to advancing the prosperity of all Georgians and thanks him for supporting our state’s robust small business community.

“The Chamber extends our gratitude to Governor Kemp for his support in our efforts to bring common-sense reforms to Georgia’s judicial system,” said David Raynor, Chief Public Affairs Officer for the Georgia Chamber. “We look forward to working alongside the Governor and members of the general assembly to level the ground of our judicial system and ensure our state remains the best place to do business.”

For over 100 years, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce has advocated on behalf of Georgia’s businesses, communities, and citizens. To learn more about the Chamber’s efforts to enact fair and balanced legal reform, visit staging.gachamber.com.
